About Marangu Day Hike Tour
The Kilimanjaro Marangu day trek is an incredible one-day excursion taking you up to the first resting station—Mandara Hut (2,720m)—and back down along the same scenic trail on the exact same day. Located approximately 45 km from Moshi town (about a 1-hour drive), the journey begins at the Marangu Gate (1,879m above sea level) where registration formalities are completed.
The total trekking distance to Mandara Hut and back is about 15 km (7.5 km each way), requiring roughly 3 to 4 hours of hiking in each direction.
Highlights Along the Trail:
- The Rainforest Zone: As you trek from Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut, you walk through a dense, pristine evergreen rainforest teeming with rich plant diversity. With a bit of luck, you may spot playful primates such as Blue Monkeys and Black-and-White Colobus Monkeys.
- Maundi Crater: A short 20-minute detour from Mandara Hut leads to Maundi Crater. Here, hikers are rewarded with stunning panoramic views of Kibo and Mawenzi peaks, alongside distant views of the Kenyan landscape, Lake Chala, and Lake Jipe.
Trip Details & Itinerary
After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, our professional driver-guide from Trekking Marshals Adventure will pick you up at approximately 8:40 AM and drive you to the Marangu Park Gate.
Upon registration, begin your climb through the montane forest towards Mandara Hut. Enjoy a well-deserved rest and picnic lunch near the huts while taking in the alpine surroundings before trekking back down to the gate. Arrive back in Moshi town around 4:30 PM in the evening.
